DAY 58 OF THE #RUN70 MILEAGE SERIES

Screen Shot 2017-07-12 at 7.28.06 AM.pngToday was really hot and humid again at 22-23° and sunny. My legs and feet were bit sore and feet really started to hurt around the 18k mark. I  found that mentally, this run felt long as well. I mentioned this in yesterday’s post, but I’m getting sick of my routes both in Toronto and Port Credit – excited to run in Portland for a week and experience a chance of scene. My pre-workout meal was the same; a vanilla whey protein smoothie and energy ball – some days I find this lasts me the duration of the run and some days I feel hungry after the 13k point. Today was one of those days where I felt hungry and experienced a steady decline of energy after 15k.

I started a new book by Peter Swanson called Her Every Fear, which started off really slow and was probably one of the reasons today’s run felt so long. When I’m listening to a really good book, it makes the time pass so quickly. Everyone always asks me if I get bored after running for 2 hours, and the answer is yes. Sometimes I do. If I can distract my brain with a good read, phone call or chat with a fellow runner, it makes the time go by 10x faster. I’ve realized this early on into the challenge and have stuck with reading highly rated fictional books for about 80% of my runs to help the time pass quicker. It also distracts my mind from any soreness my body in enduring. A new tactic I’ve picked up lately is to switch to listening to some pump up music for the last 3k or so to drive some faster splits at the end.

Only 3 more runs until I beat the world record! 🙂

Pace was the same as yesterday at 6’06km/9’49mi after 2 hours 11 minutes and 11 seconds.
