Daily Happiness Routines

I’ve been stuck in a bit of a rut lately (like we all do) and find the best way to get out of it is to bring my focus back on self development and setting new goals. There are little things that I sometimes find to be very tedious and annoying, but when I do them, I get a greater sense of satisfaction and feel more positive throughout the day. Simply put, the more of these items I do on a daily basis, the better I feel. Last week, I decided to write them down. When I’m feeling down or not myself, I can complete some of the items on the list and feel a surge of energy. Although very small, these tasks add up to big changes with my mental health and help me harness a more positive outlook on life. I like to complete as many of these items as I can in the morning as it sets the tone for the rest of the day.

This list is ongoing, but this is what I have so far.

  • Make the bed
  • Eat greens first thing in the morning – a handful of broccoli or a spinach smoothie
  • RUN
  • Lift weights
  • Read in the self development, entrepreneurship, or business categories
  • Write 500+ words
  • Meditate
  • Play recreational sports
  • Go for afternoon walks
  • Make a gratitude list
  • Journal random thoughts and ideas that come to me throughout the day
  • Listen to non-fiction audiobooks
  • Tell someone I love them
  • Complete a tedious task that I’ve been putting off (that’s been lingering in the back of my mind forever)
  • Look at my yearly goals
  • Write down monthly goals and break it down into financial, self, career, relationships, and spritituality
  • Only check social media 3x per day
  • Floss my teeth
  • Don’t consume any alcohol
  • Meet up with a friend I haven’t seen for a while
  • Play hide and seek with my dog (her favourite game)
  • Try a new recipe and make it for someone else
  • Take a few minutes to take deep breaths throughout the day
  • Learn a new song on the guitar

I don’t think there’s ever been a day when I’ve completed all the items on the list, but the more I complete, the happier I feel. The more self confidence I derive and the more positivity I harness. There are certainly days where I don’t want to get off my bum, but I try to at least focus on a few items and get those done. I love hearing about other people’s routines and rituals that help with self growth. Drop a note in the comments section with activities you do on a daily basis to stay happy 🙂
