Since beginning this challenge, I’ve had quite a few people ask me what I eat during a given day after burning around 1,500 calories, almost 1/2 pound of fat from the half marathons. I actually wasn’t sure myself as I never usually count calories. Out of own curiosity, I decided to document an entire day of what I consumed and the calorie count. Measuring portion sizes and taking photos of all my meals (I admit I’m pretty bad at it), was quite time consuming! I did have fun doing it though.
Here’s a summary and calorie count of all 6 meals I ate on Monday:
MEAL 1 (Pre-Workout)
1/2 scoop Vega Chocolate + Greens, spinach, 1 cup almond milk, 1 banana, and 1/4 cup egg whites
MEAL 2 (Pre-Workout/1 Hour After Meal 1)
2/3 cup steel cut oats, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1/2 scoop Vega Chocolate + Greens, and 1/2 cup of cherries
MEAL 3 (Post-Workout)
2 full eggs, 3/4 cup of mashed sweet potatoes, 3/4 cup Icelandic yogurt, 1 cup cherries, 1/2 tsp flax seeds, and 2 cups of broccoli
MEAL 4 (1 Hour After Meal 3)
2 Ryvita Multi-Grain Crackers, 2 tbsp light Philadelphia Cream Cheese, 1 chopped date, 4 slices of baked honey ham deli meat
MEAL 5 (2 Hours After Meal 5)
3 Pints of Mill Street I.P.A Beer
Calories = 600
1/2 Spicy Sausage Flatbread (shared between 2) – Nduja sausage, bell peppers, tomato sauce, Manchego and Mozzarella cheese
MEAL 6 (1 Hour After Meal 6)
BBQ Platter for Two (shared – only got through about 1/4 of it) – 1/2 pound of ribs, 1/2 pound brisket, 1 sausage,1/2 cup coleslaw, BBQ beans, fries (hidden under the ribs), and 2 cheddar biscuits.
Total Calories (entire meal): 2,574 (1,287 per person)
Total I ate: 643
Calories consumed on Monday: 3,302
Calories I usually consume to maintain current weight: 1,700 – 1,900
Calories burned from running 21.1k: 1,500
Gain/Deficit: – 98 – +102
On Monday, I had every intention of eating healthy in the morning, but with the beautiful weather, I started craving beer, BBQ, and pizza later in the day 😖. This wasn’t the best day to document as I don’t typically eat that much, but still thought it would be interesting to see how my calories consumed affected my weight loss/gain. On a given day I usually eat around 1,700-2,000 calories to maintain my current weight so with the added long run into consideration, I would guess I had a slight deficit or slight gain in calories at the end of the day.
