DAY 19 OF THE #RUN70 MILEAGE SERIES

Screen Shot 2017-06-02 at 3.12.10 PM.pngI started today’s run a bit later than usual (around 10:00am) which was during one of the hottest parts of the day. I’ve been lucky this week with beautiful weather. This morning was sunny at around 18-20°. I did about 15-20 mins of resistance training on my arms and back before my run – trying to keep my upper body strong and balanced. I’d say since the challenge started, I lost about 5-7 lbs a lot of which was muscle mass that I had built up over the years.

Mixed up my pre-workout meal (slightly) – I made a Vega Chocolate smoothie, with peanut butter, banana, spinach, almond milk, egg whites, and blueberries. It was super filling so I wasn’t able to drink it all before I left and felt like it kept me the fullest out of all pre-run meals I’ve had so far.

For the first couple of weeks of this challenge I would get severe knots/anxiety in my stomach before leaving for my runs (mostly worried about injury). Now that I’ve adjusted mentally and physically to the distance, I’m feeling more confident and even excited to get my runs started.

I ran the Waterfront Trail again, had another few close calls with birds, but no real attacks.  I also recently learned that it’s nesting season for the black/red wing birds and they get pretty aggressive if humans get too close to their nesting area. Hopefully that ends soon…

I was happy with today’s pace at 5’57k/9’35mi after 2 hours 7 minutes and 47 seconds.
